Monofocal Lens in Turkey

What is Monofocal Lens?

Monofocal lenses are implanted through a small incision (minimally invasive) at the edge of the cornea. Post-operative lenses allow you to see clearly in the distance. However, these lenses only correct the problem of far-sightedness. They can be adjusted so that a certain distance can be seen sharply without glasses after the refractive lens replacement.

The UV filter prevents damage to the eye. However, it aims to provide additional protection against harmful effects for the retina. But above all, it seems to provide a better sense of contrast, for example, when driving. Monofocal Smart Lenses also allow you to see a certain distance clearly without glasses, as they correct ametropia (myopia). Monofocal lenses can also be preferred for patients over the age of 40-45 with visual impairment and for patients with cataracts.

Which patients choose this lens?

This type of lens is used only for patients with distance vision problems. However, monofocal lenses are also preferred in patients over 40/45 years of age, who cannot cope with changing vision and who have not yet taken the general step towards trifocal lens. It is rarely used for the treatment of cataracts.

Advantages Monofocal Lens

Unlike the new generation of smart lenses, monofocal lenses do not completely eliminate the need for patients to wear glasses. Since they are single-focused, they usually only allow the patient to get rid of vision defects at a long distance.

Disadvantages Monofocal Lens

Monofocal lenses are spherical. Therefore, subjectively it can cause poorer vision and low contrast at night. At the same time, monofocal lenses are not suitable for correcting astigmatism and age-related visual defects. After replacing the refractive lens with monofocal lenses, the eye cannot adapt to both vision conditions (distance/proximity). For this reason, reading glasses are usually required after the operation.

Before monofocal lens operation

Eye surgeries are not usually performed under general anesthesia. Therefore, you do not need to stay hungry before the procedure as in other operations. But you can consume light foods that will not disturb your digestive system. However, before the operation, your doctor will give you some tests. As a result of these tests, it is decided whether you are suitable for the procedure. If you have a chronic illness or a medication that you use all the time, you should inform your doctor about it. We recommend that female patients do not wear makeup when coming to the operation. Because your eye area needs to be clean and sterile.

After monofocal lens operation

What needs to be considered after monofocal lens surgery is at least as important as surgery. Not only for smart lens or eye surgery, there are issues to be considered after all medical operations and these are at least as important as the surgery itself.

  • Especially for a few days after the operation, you should not lift heavy items and lean forward unless necessary.
  • If you feel pain after the operation, you can use painkillers recommended by your doctor.
  • You should not rub your eyes. Particular attention should be paid to this in the healing process.
  • Turbidity may occur for a while after the operation. In this case there is no need to worry, you may need to wait up to 2 weeks to achieve targeted vision.
  • You need to go to your doctor controls on time and completely. This is very important in order to be able to detect the complications that may occur and to intervene in a timely manner.
  • It is important to use the medicines prescribed by your doctor for the post-operative period at the level you are told and at the specified time.
  • In case of disruption in the use of medication, inform your doctor. It is important not to touch your eyes with water in the first week.
  • From the 2nd week you can begin contact with water.
  • You should try to avoid severe coughing and sneezing as much as you can.

You can return to your country after the monofocal lens operation. But it would be better to stay here for two or three days for the risk of developing a complication. After a day, if everything is in order, you can return to your country.

You need to be here on the day of the operation. You do not need to arrive a few days before the operation. But if you have planned a tour here, you can arrive earlier.

Monofocal lenses provide focus at just one distance. But multifocal lenses allow vision at various distances. These can correct both near, medium and long distance. Multifocal lenses are the most suitable option for those who want to eliminate glasses addiction.

Often monofocal Iens provide useful visual acuity without falling to distances of more than 1 meter. We think monofocal lenses are effective for patients who want to wear glasses for near vision.

Monofocal lenses can correct vision from a distance. Thus, patients can see clearly after the operation. In turn, a multifocal lens corrects the visual defect at varying distances. With a standard monofocal lens, it is an effective treatment because your vision will be clear at close or far distances.

Unlike the new generation of smart lenses, monofocal lenses do not completely eliminate the need for patients to wear glasses. Since they are single-focused, they usually only allow the patient to get rid of vision defects at a long distance.

This varies depending on your needs. If you want to wear glasses after cataract surgery, a monofocal lens may be the right choice. If you avoid wearing glasses remotely after cataract surgery, a multifocal lens may be appropriate.

Laser-assisted cataract surgery is the most advanced method for the treatment of cataract disease. However, many ophthalmologists prefer laser cataract surgery over traditional cataract surgery to “soften” cataracts.

Typically, most cataract procedures are done after age 60 due to the aging process. In addition, cataracts may develop in some patients under the age of 50.

To ensure optimal healing and results, doctors usually expect to work in the second eye. This eye needs to heal before performing another surgery on the first eye. We want to give the view enough time to stabilize. This operation is a simple method to ensure good vision and eye health.

Each person heals differently. But many patients report significantly better vision within the first 24 hours of the procedure. Make sure you have enough time to rest. So plan to take one to three days off work. After the operation, you can resume your normal activity within a few days.

A monofocal lens is a fixed-focal intraocular lens for a single distance. A cataract doctor can choose these lenses for near focus, mid-distance focus, or far focus. But only one of these three distances can be chosen. However, the focus does not change after surgery.
